Reviews Continued

"I am not aware of a more provocative book dealing with the unique trauma of childhood incestuous abuse.  Linde Grace White's heroic fight to live and reconnect with humanity will bring healing to many others waging their own private wars."   Debbie Thurman, Family Mental Health Advocacy, author, From Depression to Wholeness

"Linde Grace White has taken a page from her life and turned it into a wonderful book of resilience and survival.  Her narrative personifies the struggle of the many children who live a horrific childhood only to emerge into adulthood as warriors for the cause."  Holly Sowels-Jenkins, President, VOICES in Action, Inc.

What Linde wants us to know:

It would certainly put money in your pocket if we could prevent and stop child abuse.

Child abuse affects the victim from the moment it starts until the victim dies whether that death is immediate or 84 years later.  A person may recover and live a happy, productive life, but it will always be lived around the trauma of the abuse.  We do not forget about abuse.  We may not consciously remember the acts themselves, but we remember the trauma, the insult to integrity.  For over 40 years, I would have told you I had a lovely childhood.  Then I got so depressed I had to go on medication, and I couldn't figure out why I was depressed!  Everything seemed to be going my way, but I was suicidal.  It took a long time of therapy, spiritual guidance, anger management, self-reflection, hypnosis, journaling, and reaching out to try to trust others before I could say I felt better, felt that my life had some meaning.  I was scared that my children had been abused, too; I was afraid that maybe I had inadvertently abused them.  I still don't know why my mother chose to ignore the abuse, but my family--not a one!--has ever suggested the abuse didn't happen.  I thought I was going crazy, literally.   For the last, maybe 10 years, I have been enjoying my life and loving myself again.  It never goes completely away, but I have found that in working to help others affected by child abuse, I've come to believe in a purpose for my life.

Some Statisitics
Many people are unaware of even in this day of exposing child abuse in the church, schools, and everywhere else:
   * One in three girls and one in five boys are sexually abused before age 18.
    * Family members commit 47% of all reported sexual assaults against children in their own homes (and we all know that only a fraction of these assaults are ever reported due to threats to the children).
    * Persons known either by the child or the child's family commit 49% of all sexual assaults against children.
*Only 4% of sexual assaults against children are by strangers (persons not known to either the child or the child's family).
